| In 1982 Kevin Whitney was appointed the Official Olympic Artist for the British
Olympic Association. His first book of paintings was then published and called 'The
Olympic Challenge'. Kevin has attended 3 of the Olympic Games as the Official GB Olympic
Artist, the first for any country in the history of the Modern Olympic Movement. Kevin was a lecturer at the Froebel Institute in London and
at the University of California.
He started the fine art workshop department of the International Olympic Academy in
Olympia Greece. He toured Australia painting major sporting events as part of the
bicentennial celebrations. In 1991 he was appointed the official International artist and
art director for VISA.
In the lead up to the 1995 European Youth Olympics that were taking place in Bath, Kevin
was commissioned to paint with 50 children a large mural that today can be seen in Bath
Sports Centre. He has painted many famous athletes including Linford Christie MBE, Tessa
Sanderson OBE, Jason Gardener MBE and Mark Foster.
Kevin has exhibited in Italy, Switzerland, California, Australia, Barcelona, Los Angeles,
and exhibited for The Princess Royal and The Duke of Edinburgh. David Bowie purchased
Kevin's first major works and he has also been commissioned to paint for Steven Norris MP.
In 2002 Kevin received a Diploma from Juan Antonia Samaranch, President of the IOC,
celebrating Kevin's 20 years working in the Olympics.
More recent work in 2003-2009 has been as a lecturer at the Big Draw Project run by the
Guardian Newspaper. Kevin has been the lead artist for the 2004-2010 Olympic Arts
workshops that have taken place in Bath, North East Somerset, Wiltshire, London and South
Cheshire. And is looking forward as Loraine and her team organise the project in the lead
up to and including the 2012 Olympic games.
