In 2003 Loraine was introduced to Olympic artisit Kevin Whitney by Ged Roddy MBE Director of Sport at Team Bath, Loraine was impressed with Kevin's artwork and interested to hear about the Mural he created with 50 Bath school children in 1995 when Bath hosted the European Youth Olympics, the mural can still be seen today in Bath Sports Centre. Kevin said he would like to run artworkshops and Loraine taking this on baord created the Olympic arts project, enabling Kevin with sponsorship to run Olympic themed art workshops in schools and the community. Loraine and her team at Morgan-Brinkhurst Consultancy do all the administration and organisatuon linked to the project and when they receive sponsorship they arrange the art workshops for Kevin to run. Loraine said " In 2003 when I was introduced to Kevin Whitney by Ged Roddy MBE and I was inspired by Kevins artistic talents. I came up with a unique concept whereby Kevin could use his artistic impressions within the schools giving children and young people the opportunity to work alongside a world renowned artist who has been linked to the Olympic games. The workshops would include not only the chance to create Olympic themed paintings and murals but also gave the young people the chance to understand and learn about the Olympics, sport and Greek Mythology, together with meeting successful and inspirational Olympic athletes. We are grateful to our Olympic athlete ambassadors namely Jason Gardener MBE, Mark Foster, Sam Weale and Paralympic Gold Medallist Steve Brunt for their support and enthusiasm and who share their time with us and the young people. Over the last 5 years the project has evolved from not only taking place in Bath (which was the original concept) but now takes place across the UK including exhibitions in participating Cities and Towns and also City Hall in London courtesy of the Mayor of London. In 2008 we were invited to visit China and are now looking at linking schools and businesses in the UK with schools and businesses in China to promote this already unique and successful project. |
